| Deep, concentrated red colour with purple hints. An expressive grape with ripe, fruity aromas of plum and cherry as notes of mineral and sometime chocolate and spice. Grown widely in Argentina and in the Cahors region in the lovely Lot Valley south of the Dordogne in France. It is also one of the six allowed varieties for red Bordeaux blends. |

Fantasia Malbec 2008, Mauricio Lorca |
£9.99 per bottle £119.88 per case Probably the best young Malbec we have tasted for the money. 30% sees oak, 70% is what Mauricio calls ‘pure fruit’, made from hand-harvested Vistaflores grapes in the high Uco Valley. Intense purple in colour, ripe and spicy on the nose with explosive fresh cherry fruit in the mouth – a humdinger.
“Notably deep coloured with a hint of black. Exotically floral nose. Something very distinctive about this!” Jancis Robinson’s Purple Pages, April 2009
Drink: Now until 2012 Drink with: Good with steaks, red meats, pasta dishes and meaty fish.

Joffre Malbec 2006, RJ Vinedos |
£12.99 per bottle £155.88 per case Here’s another reason why wines from the Uco Valley have gained such an excellent reputation. This outstanding Malbec made from old vines grown in their own vineyards at Los Sauces. The colour is wonderfully attractive with deep, intense ruby and shades of purple. The nose is highly expressive with perfumed aromas of redcurrant, blueberry and black forest fruits layered on top of ripe figs, some jammy fruit, hints of sweet spice, vanilla and chocolate and showing some signs of maturity. In the mouth the fresh fruits, soft juicy tannins and alcohol are all exquisitely balanced and followed through by a sweet, savoury and persistent finish. Grand Malbec indeed!
Drink: Now until 2014 Drink with: Good with steaks, red meats, pasta dishes and meaty fish.
