Olivier Morin Our Wines > Our Wine Makers > Olivier Morin
|
It would be hard to be more of a rising star than Olivier Morin, although he is far too modest to mention it. Voted in "La Revue du Vin de France" as one of the most talented young wine makers in Burgundy, the 39 year old Olivier has been quietly making wines in the village of Chitry-le-Fort near Chablis for the last 10 years. He practices what the French refer to as "reasonable viticulture", a common sense approach with minimal use of pesticides.
His Chitry Blanc is 100% Chardonnay but with a floral aroma, elegance and mineral character that he argues is unique to the immediate area. In fact, his wife, as mayor of the village, has been leading the way in the lobbying for full AC status for Chitry, something that they believe will happen in a few years time. Comparisons with Chablis, three miles away, are inevitable, but this is a far more rewarding wine than most generic Chablis and (for the moment at least) it is a lot better value! |
